Timber restorations

Residential timber care

Timber restorations

Decks, stairs, handrails and architectural timber restored with the patience required to bring the timber back properly.

Restore and protect

Timber restoration begins by understanding what is already on the surface.

Weathering, old oils, film forming coatings, contamination and previous maintenance all change what the timber needs.

I inspect the condition and existing finish before recommending the restoration. The aim is not to make the deck look dark and glossy for a photograph. It is to prepare it properly, select a suitable system and give the homeowner realistic guidance about protection and future maintenance.

Assessment before product selection

We identify the timber, existing finish, weathering, contamination and exposure before recommending the restoration system.

Preparation that reaches sound timber

Cleaning, stripping and dust controlled sanding are completed to the level required by the actual condition.

Protection with a maintenance plan

The selected oil, stain, clear or painted system is discussed together with its appearance and future care.

Timber restoration

A new coat cannot correct timber that has not been prepared properly.

Timber restoration is more than adding colour back to a deck. The existing finish, weathering, moisture exposure, board condition and connected elements all need to be considered.

I explain what the area needs, how the completed appearance may vary with the timber and what ongoing maintenance should realistically look like.

We identify what is on the timber before deciding how to remove it

Timber assessment and cleaning

We identify what is on the timber before deciding how to remove it

Old oils, film forming coatings, grey weathering and contamination do not all respond in the same way. I identify what is present before deciding what should be retained, removed or rebuilt.

Sanding reveals the condition we actually need to work with

Mechanical preparation

Sanding reveals the condition we actually need to work with

We sand to remove deteriorated material, create an even surface and prepare the timber to accept its new system. Dust extraction helps us work cleanly while making it easier to inspect boards, fixings, edges and areas requiring further attention.

The coating can only perform when the timber is ready for it

A sound foundation

The coating can only perform when the timber is ready for it

Before coating, the timber must be clean, appropriately dry and consistently prepared. We check the surface rather than treating preparation as complete simply because the sanding stage has finished.

Our best timber restorations

Natural timber restored with depth, consistency and protection.

These completed projects show the range of timber areas we restore, from large garden decks to elevated outdoor living spaces and detailed handrails. The system is selected for the timber and its exposure, not simply for the colour visible on the day of completion.

Outdoor timber across different homes

The same standard across decks, balconies and verandahs.

Scale, access and exposure change from home to home. Our preparation remains controlled, and connected elements are considered together so the completed area reads as one properly restored result.

Timber needs a complete system

The best timber result is the one suited to that particular area.

A deck cannot be judged by colour alone. I consider the timber, existing finish, weathering, board condition, drainage and exposure before recommending a restoration and maintenance approach.

There is no single product or finish that is automatically right for every home.

Decks and stairs

Traffic, water movement, exposed edges, fixings and previous coatings are considered across the walking surface and connected steps.

Handrails and posts

Vertical and detailed timber weathers differently from decking and needs preparation that respects its shape, grain and existing finish.

Doors and architectural timber

Timber doors, windows and feature elements require controlled sanding and a finish selected around appearance, protection and future care.

We restore timber for the way it is exposed and the way you want to maintain it.

The Superior approach

We restore timber for the way it is exposed and the way you want to maintain it.

There is no single oil, stain or clear finish that suits every home. We explain the available appearance, protection and maintenance expectations so you can make an informed decision.

  • Assessment of the existing finish before products are selected
  • Specialist cleaning, stripping and dust controlled sanding
  • A realistic maintenance discussion before the work begins

Before work begins

Understanding timber restoration

I would rather answer the important questions clearly before a project begins than leave a homeowner guessing once work is underway.

Can every weathered deck be restored?

Many can, but coating failure and weathering can conceal damaged boards, fixings or structural concerns. We inspect the condition before confirming the appropriate scope.

Will the timber colour be completely even?

Timber is a natural material and differences in age, grain, previous coatings and exposure can remain visible. We prepare for consistency while retaining the character of the timber.

How often will the finish need maintenance?

That depends on exposure, use, timber species and the selected system. We discuss likely maintenance requirements when recommending the finish.
